Rhodonite Beads![]() Rhodonite beads are named for the Greek word for rose, "rhodon." Rhodonite is also known as the "stone of love." Rhodonite is generally a rose-pink color, but may also be red, orange, or black. Its distinctive color can be confused with rhodochrosite and the rare mineral, pyroxmangite, MnSiO3. However, rhodochrosite has white streaks while rhodonite usually has dark manganese veins or matrix. Pyroxmangite and rhodonite are indistinguishable without complex tests. Rhodonite is a minor ore for manganese. Rhodonite is often carved into cabochons as well as gemstone beads for jewelry making. It's primary appeal among jewelry supplies is its beautiful pink color, but it is also low cost which is an added appeal. It pairs well with river stone, hematite, sugulite, unakite, tourmaline, rose quartz, amethyst, moukaite, and labradorite. Although somewhat soft, rhodonite works well in jewelry making projects where it will not be subjected to abuse or impact. Primary sources of rhodonite are the United States, Sweden, Russia, India, Australia, and Brazil. common treatments: none special care: avoid impact, abrasion, prolonged exposure to sunlight hardness: 5.5 - 6.5 |
