Delica Beads![]() Delica beads, also known as Japanese tube beads, are glass beads manufactured by the Miyuki Company in Japan. Delica beads are desirable in jewelry making for their large hole size, wide color variety, and uniformity. Jewelry supplies of Delica beads offer a lot of flexibility, as they are small, uniform, and come in an extremely wide color selection. In fact, there are few beads on the market that come in literally hundreds of colors as do Delica beads. They are well suited to designs where a smooth surface is desired, such as amulet purses or beaded objects. The standard size for delica beads is 11/0. The 8/0 size delica beads are larger and available in significantly fewer colors. The cut delica beads have a faceted surface, shaped the same as a nut (like in nuts and bolts,) to improve the reflection of light. Cut delica beads add sparkle beyond that possible with the smooth surfaced delicas. Miyuki does tolerate some color difference between batches, so for a single jewelry making project it's a good idea to buy as many as you think you will need all at one time to avoid the possibility of the color changing with a different batch of beads. common treatments: many of the colors are dyed special care: avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, friction, impact, or extreme temperature changes |
