Ametrine Beads![]() Ametrine beads are made of a material scientifically known as silicon dioxide quartz. In nature, if some of the developing crystal were exposed to heat, that part would become citrine, and the rest of the crystal would remain amethyst. So, gemstone beads of ametrine are partially amethyst and partially citrine, which is to say they are a two-colored version of the same material. Natural ametrine only comes from one mine in the world, in Bolivia. However, exposing amethyst to heat or radiation can create the color change found in natural ametrine. Ametrine is either opaque or transparent yellow graduating to lavender or purple. It is usually faceted, due to its transparency which makes for excellent light reflection and accounts for its value in jewelry making. Ametrine's colors are complimentary in the color wheel, making it a fine addition to one's jewelry supplies. In addition to its usefulness in jewelry making, ametrine is believed to be associated with intuition, psychic development, and dreams. common treatments: often heat treated or irradiated special care: avoid prolonged exposure to strong heat or light hardness: 7 |
